For tree-mendous hikes head to Tillamook State Forest
The small town of Tillamook is just off the Oregon Coast on the southern flanks of Tillamook Bay. After a vast, devastating forest fire in the 1930s, known as the Tillamook Burn, Tillamook State Forest is the result of a massive reforestation process. Under the gaze of the snow-capped peaks of South Saddle Mountain, Tillamook State Forest is renowned for its many hiking trails. Several wooded trails follow the winding path of the Wilson River, which runs through the forest. Home to variety of birdlife, including the sooty grouse and the chestnut-backed chickadee, it's also great for wild salmon fishing.
