North Kingstown: a charming corner of Rhode Island
Rhode Island's coastal town of North Kingstown is best known as the birthplace of the American artist Gilbert Stuart, in near Saunderstown. His 18th-century former home now serves as a museum of his life and works. If centuries-old architecture interests you, there's plenty more near your North Kingston vacation rental to admire. There's more than just the attractions though. The nearby bay offers a ton of water sports, like kayaking or snorkeling, whereas further inland there are opportunities to hike along the trails or go cycling. You'll never be bored when you stay in this quaint corner of Rhode Island.
Visit Gilbert Stuart's birthplace in North Kingstown
If you can drag yourself away from the beach, there are several landmarks that are worth some of your precious vacation time. In the little village of Wickford, you can see Smith's Castle, a beautiful white clapboard home built over 2 centuries ago and one of the oldest in Rhode Island. Alternatively, for more architecture, try the Gilbert Stuart Birthplace and Museum in Saunderstown, which hasn't changed all that much since it was built in the late 18th-century. Military history buffs should swing by the Seabee Museum and Memorial Park, or the Goddard Memorial State Park.

The saltmarsh habitat and the Pettaquamscutt Cove are home to over 200 resident bird species, including the black bellied plover, which wade around in the mudflats in search of insects and shellfish.
